Ireland Amusement Parks
Ireland isn’t home to the world’s best thrill rides, but they do have many theme parks that express the country’s history and landscape. Because it rains so often in Ireland many of these places are only open during May-October. Being the Emerald Isle means that outdoor amusement can be pretty wet during the winter months. All over Ireland, however, there are small indoor venues that are fun for the whole family. From indoor swimming to huge arcades, there is something fun for everyone. There are also loads of historically based theme parks where you and your family can learn about Ireland’s rich and often violent past.
Dublin’s Viking Adventure allows you to experience the sights, smells and sounds of Dyflin, the former Viking village. It was built one thousand years ago and laid the foundations for contemporary Dublin. The tour creates an fun and interactive way to experience the way of Viking life by going on a Viking trade ship through stormy seas, rain and wind to arrive at Dublin Docks as they were over ten centuries ago. Dr. Quirkey’s Goodtime Emporium: This awesome place is located right in Dublin and is a great place to take kids. It is filled with loads of arcade games and has a whole casino-like side to it. It is massive and will keep you and your kids entertained for hours. Because it is located in Dublin itself it will be easy to find. Dr. Quirkey’s is a great place to enjoy time with your family as well as get to know other Irish families.
The Millennium Maze: This crazy maze is located in County Kildare. The Millennium Maze offers fun for the whole family. It is crazy trying to navigate your way through this massive maze. The park also includes mini-golf and a petting zoo filled with all sorts of farm animals. There is also a beautiful picnic area for you to rest after an adventurous walk through the maze.
Kilkee Water World: Located in County Clare, Kilkee Water World is fun anytime of the year as it is an indoor facility. It has waterslides, a Jacuzzi, a kid’s pool, and much more. Bunratty Castle & Folk Park: Located in Shannon, Ireland, Bunratty Castle is one of the best examples of an Irish tower house that survives today. The castle has a bloody and violent history that is explained to you as you take your tour of the castle and the grounds. Folk Park is connected to the castle and aims to show what everyday life was like in rural Ireland about 100 years ago. It is a true living museum where the people and animals are living their lives, as they would have done so long ago.
