Portland Amusement Parks

Oregon isn’t exactly known for its thrill seeking amusement parks or its great roller coasters like our neighbor to the south, but Portland does offer some fun alternatives that have a more traditional feel or often play off of the “magic” of the Northwest. So don’t worry, there are solutions to your rainy day plans in and around Portland. The best time to go would of course be during on of Oregon’s beautiful summers—these parks are prepared for the wet weather. Many of the parks have indoor and outdoor options, which make them great anytime of the year!

Oaks Park amusement park and skating rink is located in southeast Portland. It is probably the most appropriate park for children and families of all ages in the state. It was built in 1905, which means in 2005 it celebrated 100 years of operation making it one of the oldest continuously operating amusement parks in America. While it doesn’t house huge coasters or thrill rides it is home to some of the most traditional and favorite fair-type rides that we all know and love. From the Rock & Roll to the Screamin’ Eagle, you’re sure to find something exciting to ride! Plus, the park also has a great section of kids rides and a roller rink to boot, making it a fabulously fun day out for the whole family no matter what the weather is like! Enchanted Forest brings the magic of the northwest into one fun filled day! It is located right off of I-5 next to the now closed Thrillville USA, about an hour south of Portland. The park is built amongst the greens and tall trees of the Oregon landscape adding to the allure and magic of the place. It is the perfect place for families with young children with water rides, small coasters and Storybook Lane. Your kids can also take a walk through the old west in Western Town or a stroll through a traditional English Village. The park also offers live entertainment in their comedy theater and a really cool water-light display. It is a great way to experience the spirit of the Northwest. The staff is always friendly and fun displaying true Oregon kindness. The park has been open since 1971 but never ceases to improve and add on. Family Fun Center & Bullwinkle’s Restaurant is located in Wilsonville, OR, about 30 minutes south of Portland. Anything from bumper cars to mini-golf or even racecar driving, this park has something for everyone. The inside is laden with the coolest video games and Bullwinkle’s restaurant; a kid’s favorite and your kids will love you for it. Because it has indoor and outdoor attractions it is perfect for anytime of the year, especially in Oregon where it tends to be a bit rainy 7-8 months out of the year. So, if you are looking for something fun to do that the whole family can enjoy try heading down to Family Fun Center—the name says it all.
