Spain Beaches

Spain is home to some of the world’s best beaches. People from all over Europe take their summer holidays in Spain just to enjoy these amazing beaches and the beautiful culture all in one.

Barcelona has some of the most coveted beaches in the world. Apart from the silky golden sand and the bath-like Mediterranean, no matter where you go in Barcelona you are sure to find fun people, great food, and amazing drinks right there on the beach. In some cases you can sunbathe and wait for people to come around offering you beer or soda or snacks, at a price of course. But at least you don’t have to crawl across the burning hot sand to the bar. A day at the beach in Barcelona pretty much consists of lying in the sun and running to the warm water to cool down a bit, and then doing it all over again. You will feel more relaxed than you have in a long time. A fair warning to families: most beaches in Spain contain nudity, a lot of nudity. Even family beaches will have the occasional topless sun tanners. So, choose your beach wisely if you are worried about it. Otherwise, just lay back and enjoy some true Spanish culture. After a day at the beach in Barcelona you will begin to understand the general Spanish sentiment of leaving all your worries until “mañana” (tomorrow.)

Valencia is now considered a young people’s Barcelona. While Barcelona still boasts plenty of fun for the young scene, Valencia is where the youth of Europe go to party and catch some rays. It is easy to understand why. Valencia has the same climate and beach availability of Barcelona but is a lot less crowded. Plus, it is only about 3 hours south of Barcelona so it makes a great day trip if you are staying in Barcelona during your holiday.

Cádiz is often called the “coast of light” because of its bright golden beaches. Cádiz is a hot spot in Spain, especially for the younger crowd. La Victoria is the main beach in Cádiz because it is located right where the beautiful city stands. It is one of the most popular beaches of southern Spain. The promenade is beautiful and loaded with fun things to do. Cádiz also has many more wonderful beaches to offer all around and just outside of the city. The food is fabulous, the weather is spectacular, and nothing is better than a day at the beach in Cádiz.

If you find yourself in northwestern Spain during your holiday don’t worry! There is still a world-class beach for you. San Sebastian is world famous for its nightlife, great food, and sandy beaches. The weather may not be as warm as it gets in southern Spain, but it is still sunny during spring and summer and is a great place for families. Playa de la Concha, or shell beach, is a perfect horseshoe shape with miles of sandy beach (great for pictures!). During the summer you will find kids and adults alike playing in the surf or throwing a frisbee. This is a great place for a romantic evening walk or a day at the beach with your family.
