Spain for the Family
Spain is a great place for your family vacation. You and your family can experience world-renowned zoos, great amusement parks, awesome beaches, amazing weather, delicious food, and a truly unique culture.
Barcelona: This beautiful Mediterranean city has loads for families to do. The Barcelona Zoo is a great place to take the whole family. This zoo is all about preservation, conservation, and education. It is a great place to take your kids and have a fun family day out. Also, Parc Guell by Antoni Guadí is an interesting place for anyone. The park is an amazing walk that is filled with the enchanting architecture of Guadí. It is great on a sunny day. Combine this walk with a walk down Las Ramblas where you and your kids can see all of the street entertainers and interesting Barcelona sights. These two places will give your family a true taste of real Spanish culture.
Madrid has loads to offer you and your whole family. There are tons of parks, museums, sights and entertainment. The Museo Nacional del Prado is one of the most interesting sights of Madrid. This museum houses works of Rembrandt, Picasso, and Goya. Younger children may find a museum not too exciting, but there is a great park just outside this museum for children to play in. Also, Madrid is home to an amazing zoo and aquarium that is fun for the whole family and great to enjoy on a sunny day. You and your family will also be amazed by the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) in Madrid, which is a beautiful sight, especially at night. The Parque de Retiro is another great place to take the whole family. Here you can enjoy the warm weather and sunshine in Madrid while walking through this beautiful royal park. This is a great place for watching all of the interesting street entertainers who dress up like historical figures, or sing, or dance, or do any type of performance imaginable. The best performers usually tend to be closer to the waterfront.
Asturias: If you find yourself in the northwestern region of Spain called Asturias, you and your family are in for a treat. Asturias is a quiet northern state of Spain with its own unique culture and history. It is a great way to immerse yourself in the Spanish language, but several people can speak some English as well making your trip quite an adventure. Asturias has a completely different climate than that of Madrid or Barcelona. It is more like the northwest in the US, making summer a great time to visit this beautiful region. Oviedo, one of the most notable cities of the region is a great place for your family vacation. It is a smaller city with all the resources of a large one. The Parque De San Francisco is a great place for a walk on a warm day or a picnic with your family. There is also great shopping just down the main street. It is also fun to just take a walk through the city and look at all of the amazing sculptures. Oviedo also boasts one of the most impressive and breathtaking cathedrals in all of Spain. It is also deemed the cleanest city in Spain, which is already a pretty clean country, and is often the backdrop for many of Woody Allen’s films (which explains the statue of him in El Parque de San Francisco.) Oviedo is also only a short way away from Gijón, which has a great family beach, and is also close to the Basque region of Spain, which yet again houses its own unique and interesting culture.
