January: Ireland gets very cold during the fall and winter and even through early spring so be sure to bring your warmest clothes if traveling to Ireland during January. January is a great month to come and experience the best of Irish culture. What’s more, you can catch the Temple Bar Trad Fest, which is a full on cultural explosion of Irish dancing, music, art, and more!
February: Still very cold and wet, February is not a month to forget your umbrella. For those of you that are into independent films and Irish films especially, February is home to the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.
March: Could there be a better month to come to Ireland? It may be cold and wet but that doesn’t stop the Irish from celebrating there world renowned holiday. There are St. Patrick’s Day festivals and parades happening all over the country so no matter where you are, there will be a party going on!
April: April actually tends to be a drier month in Ireland but bring a light rain jacket just in case. Also, the Handel Festival, which is a cultural event, usually takes place in April in Temple Bar.
May: May is a great month in Ireland as the weather begins to warm up and the rain starts to die down. It is also a great time to visit Dublin as the month is dedicated to celebrating and learning about the fabulous city.
June: June is beautiful in Ireland. You may even get to put on some shorts and a t-shirt! Also, if you love literature June is home to the Dublin Writers Festival in which Dublin hosts a slew of Irish and international writers of all genres.
July: July is gorgeous and there are many sunny days to be enjoyed in Ireland. It is also the host of Oxegen. This is the self-proclaimed best music festival in all of Europe and they may be right!
August: The weather continues to hold strong through August. Ireland also participates in the European Union’s Heritage Week. This is when people across Europe visit sights, landmarks and monuments across Europe and get in touch with their own personal history. August is a great month to be Irish.
September: Fall might mark the beginning of falling temperatures but the rain stays away, at least for a little while through September. It is also a great month to laugh as it is home to the Bulmer’s International Comedy Festival.
October: October tends to cool down the Emerald Isle quite a bit, but it is still beautiful. It may rain though, so it is always smart to carry an umbrella. It is also the host of the Dublin Theater Festival, which if you love live theater, is a must see.
November: November really starts to cool down in Ireland so bring your scarves, hats and mittens. November is also home to the culmination of the always fun Belfast Festival at Queen’s.
December: December is the official mark of winter so it is no surprise that it will be cold, really cold and wet when visiting Ireland in this frigid month. But, this only makes it a more beautiful time to see all of the fabulous decorations. The Irish really outdo themselves for the Christmas season and the result is beautiful!
