Miami is a town that’s always got something going on. There are festivals, concerts, gallery shows and exhibits as well as sporting events and parties galore. Choose to attend a special event during your Miami vacation.

January

Each January the city of Miami celebrates its Art Deco history with an Art Deco Festival Weekend. Stop by for historical tours, movies, a parade, and lectures. Afterward, keep on an artistic theme with the Beaux Arts Festival at the Lowe Art Museum in Coral Gables. Expect to find assorted arts, crafts and other artistic media. Several hundred exhibitors make this a day long, enjoyable event with a variety of lovely things to admire.

February

It’s not October, it’s definitely time for a brew fest and a blues fest! Come to Coral Gables’ Fritz and Franz Bierhaus to celebrate cool lager and cool blues music. Why not try the Coconut Grove Art Festival, one of the most celebrated in the nation?  More than 325 artists exhibit in a dozen categories.

March

Calla Ocho, spread out over the 23 blocks of Little Havana and focused on 8th avenue, is the city’s festival of Latin food, music and culture.  The Miami Grand Prix opens the year’s world famous Indy racing league each March.

April

Besides buds and blossoms, nothing signals spring like baseball, hot dogs and bleacher seats. Be sure to take in a Florida Marlins game. Prefer soccer? South Florida’s only pro soccer team, the Miami FC, opens its season in April, too.

May

May is a fashionable month in Miami, opening with the Miami Fashion Week of the Americas. Featuring designers from Latin America, Europe, Asia and elsewhere there are dozens of collections viewed with prizes awarded. Stay in town for City Style, a sister event featuring up and coming designers with street smarts and the ability to create a buzz.

June

This one’s for the kids – Lizard Day! Kids are invited to bring their favorite lizard to the Miami Museum of Science and compete in races and contests with other lizards. Adults may prefer to visit the Fete de la Musique Coconut Grove, free entertainment with fifty bands and other musicians playing everything from classical to pop to jazz.

July

Celebrate your independence at one of the great city-wide parties. The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables puts on a delightful spread and a refined display while the Miami Beach hosts a public fireworks display with live music.

August

Lots of street festivals in Miami to help cool down the August heat; many different locations hold fests all over town. Try the Homestead Main Street Fest or the Summer Splash Wet Fest.

September

September is football month, and if you’re a pigskin fan there are lots of options. Start with the NFL’s world famous Miami Dolphins. Or go college with the FIU’s Panthers or the Miami Hurricanes.

October

Miami hosts several fast-paced Regattas and boat fests in October. One of the best known, the Columbus Day Regatta, finds 200+ sailboats competing on Biscayne Bay. Two of the more unusual races are two Dragon Boat Festivals, Hong-Kong style.

November

Miami’s delightful year-round temperate weather allows it to host one of the world’s largest outdoor book festivals in November, the Miami International Book Fair, with over 250 authors.

December

December is a month to celebrate faith, starting with the Matzoh Ball. Some 2000 Jewish singles celebrate together on December 24th. You might also take in the Festival of Carols, a spectacular light display at the City of Miami Gardens. It features soloist, carolers, and lots of visitors having a good time.
