New York Nightlife

New York City is known for its 24 hour a day scene. From after-theater dinners out to hundreds of clubs and music venues, there is something to do every minute of the day and night, if a traveler so wished.  Here is a short list of the most popular options. Don’t be afraid to try something new!

Late Night Dining

Of course many neighborhood diners are open late night, so if you want Tuna on Rye you can stop in and grab one, and a cup of Joe, near any hotel you’re staying at. Just don’t look for Jerry Seinfeld and the gang. If more upscale dining is what you had in mind, a number of famous New York restaurants are open for after-theater or after-club dining. Landmarc, in TriBeca on West Broadway is known for its hanger steaks and good half bottles of wine. It’s open till 2 am. Hankering for Asian food? Try the Fatty Crab, also open till 2 am on the weekends, features steamed pork buns, salads and short ribs, and crab, of course.

Concerts

Every kind of music thrives in New York City, and whatever your preference, you’re sure to find a concert in line with your  tastes. If you prefer classical music, check out what’s offered at the world famous Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, or Brooklyn Academy of Music. Prefer Jazz? There are dozens of high quality venues, often found in Greenwich Village or Harlem. Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall often offer Rock, Pop, or Country performers. And there are thousands of local bands and singers performing each night in small, local clubs and bars. Your hotel’s concierge can help you find out who will be playing, and what, during your New York vacation.

Broadway and Off Broadway

One of the things almost everyone wants to do while on a New York vacation is take in an evening Broadway show. There is something for everyone - musicals, drama, best-sellers, comedy classics, and kid’s shows. There may be hundreds of plays showing at any given time. Your hotel concierge can show you the options and arrange to buy tickets for you. Or, if you like, you can purchase tickets in advance before you leave home. Want to try something a bit more unknown, independent? Take in an Off Broadway show, less produced jewels in the rough often for about half the ticket price.
