Spain Restaurants
One of the best reasons to visit Spain is for the food! (And wine.) Spain has some of the best cuisine in the world; you just have to be brave enough to try it. What is great about the country also, is that each region is known for a different and unique type of food. Because the country of Spain spans across so many different climates and landscapes, it is no wonder the country produces such a wide variety of delicious and truly unique dishes.
No matter where you are in the country, sit back with your glass of Tempernillo and enjoy some delicious Spanish cuisine. Or, you can head to Madrid, which is kind of like the melting pot of all of Spain’s different flavors and here you can experience it all within one city!
Barcelona: There is only one word you need to know in Barcelona—Paella. This delicious rice “mezcla” is probably the most popular dish to make its way out of Spain and Barcelona serves up some of the finest! Botafumeiro in Barcelona is a restaurant that takes the art of cuisine seriously. It produces some of the most delicious seafood dishes and Paella in the city. It is a bit pricey, but if you really love food it is worth it.
On the other hand, if you simply just want to try the Spanish delicacy, simply take a walk down Las Ramblas where there is patio after patio serving up the Spanish favorite. Don’t forget to order a pitcher of sangria with your dinner or lunch!
Seville: The actual people of Seville are not big on going out to eat, which is a good thing for tourists because a lot of the traditional restaurants in Seville are, as a result, filled with homemade goodness. The south of Spain is where the famous Gazpacho soup was first created. This chilled, tomato-based delicacy is a favorite for tourists and natives alike. It is a great way to cool down on those hot southern days. La Albahaca on Plaza Santa Cruz is a great place to experience the elegance and exquisite cuisine of Seville at a moderate price. It has a gorgeous outdoor patio and a delicious menu. It is a great pace for a romantic date.
If you are staying in the city center, visit La Taberna del Alabardero, which is a typical southern Spain style restaurant with moderate prices and a great atmosphere. It is one of the most popular restaurants in Seville.
Asturias: In this northern region of Spain there is a completely different cuisine than you will experience in the south and east. Asturias is famous for its cured meats, cheeses, chorizo, and most importantly sidra. Because there are so many delicious apples in the region, a type of apple cider is made in massive quantities in Asturias. Sidra, however, is extremely bitter and takes some getting used to. But the pouring of sidra and the drinking of sidra is a long held tradition in this part of the country. The pour holds the bottle high above the cup to allow it to foam and splash as it is being poured. You aren’t supposed to look at what you are doing when pouring and the drinker is simply supposed to drink the sidra as fast as possible. It is a really fun thing to do, even if you don’t like the taste. A great place to go for tradition Asturias food and drink is Asturiano, located in Oviedo. Here they have sidra, cheese, meat, and more meat. It is a true Asturias restaurant!
