Guggenheim Bilbao: Bilbao, located in the Basque region of northern Spain, perhaps would be at the top of any tourist’s travel itinerary if it weren’t for the Guggenheim. With Guggenheim museums all around the world this one is especially famous as it is a work of art inside and out. The unique architecture by famed architect Frank Gerhy, is enough to keep you interested without ever even going inside. It is truly a wonder of the world and worth a visit no matter where you are in Spain. The museum’s permanent collection doesn’t disappoint either. It is filled with insanely huge sculptures, truly innovative design, and unprecedented creativity. Not to mention, the exhibitions that travel in and out of the museum are always amazing and keep you coming back again and again. The creativity inside certainly matches the wonder of the outside. Be sure to spend a whole day exploring all the museum has to offer. Even your kids will love the giant spider sculpture outside, which is great for pictures!

La Sagrada Família: Spain might be known as the country to visit for amazing cathedrals, but you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen La Sagrada Família. The work on this truly massive and still unfinished cathedral began in 1882. A year later Guadí was commissioned to take over its design, which accounts for its funky style and unique look. This cathedral is truly one of the most amazing sights in the whole world. Located in Barcelona it is easy to get to on the metro. Right when you get off the metro giant hoards of people and great lines will await you. Don’t be deterred! Although you may have to wait upwards of 4 hours, the view from the top of this amazing building is indescribable and totally worth it. While the church is still under construction it is still an amazing sight and even more amazing to think that plans for continued construction stretch beyond this lifetime. After a visit to this amazing accomplishment of Guadí, take a walk through Parc Güell to round out your Guadí experience.

El Museo del Prado: While in Madrid the must visit sight is the famous Museum del Prado. While the Palacio Real (royal palace) shouldn’t be missed either, this museum is truly an amazing experience, whether you love art or not. From El Greco, to Rembrandt, to Goya this museum houses some of the world’s most influential pieces of art in history. You may have heard the names Raphael or Bosch in art class or even study their pieces but to see it in person is unparalleled to anything else. The museum prides itself on having 15 permanent masterpieces and then has traveling exhibitions that float in and out with names like Picasso and Da Vinci.
