Three Key Components to Discount Airfare
Looking for cheap airfare is probably one of the first moves that people make when reducing their overall travel expenditures. As it’s typically the most expensive part of your trip, it only makes sense that it would be the easiest place to trim the fat from. Well, the answer to that is both yes and no. Keeping everything loose and then throwing yourself upon the altar of online discount travel brokers isn’t nearly as smart of an idea as the commercials make it out to be. While there are certainly deals to be had on these sites, cutting the cost of your airfare is going to come down to more than luck, and while employing the three key components below is also no absolute guarantee for cheap tickets, it’s only because sadly no such guarantee exists. What it does ensure you is that your chances of getting a good deal from the get-go become more aligned in your favor.
Plan in Advance.
This is critical for several reasons. The first being that the further out you know your travel schedule, the more time you‘ll have to monitor airfare prices, set alerts, and grab the best price when it becomes available. It’s also immensely helpful because—ideally—you are able to plan your travel around off-peak times to get the best mix of price and without sacrificing the bet of what your destination has to offer.
Stay flexible.
Leaving on a Thursday and returning on Monday often results in the best prices around. However, if through your research you’ve come across a special weekend or early morning fare, have the flexibility to shift your departure/arrival by a day or two to accommodate these limited offer deals.
Avoid the gimmicks.
People who claim that they can beat the system are often misguided or trying to cash-in on your desire for savings. You’ll often hear them tell you to only buy through certain carriers and at certain times, etc. Ultimately you need to trust your instincts and feel secure about your purchase. If you’ve been monitoring prices and feel that you’ve found the best one, you should go with it. Above all else, place your trust in practical tips and advice, because it stands to reason that if there were some loophole to really cheap flights, rest assured we would all know about it overnight.
