Beach Vacation

The warm sand, the waves lapping gently against the shore, and the overall feeling of calm that comes from indulging in a much-deserved trip to the beach.  For some, this is what vacationing is all about; the penultimate form of relaxation, as designed by Mother Nature and mastered by vacationers everywhere.  Let’s not pretend that the travel companies and resorts aren’t onto our international love affair with a good beach vacation.  In reality, you’ll be hard pressed to find a coastal town outside of Antarctica that doesn’t have something in place to promote its tourism.

One of the most appealing factors of taking a beach vacation is the climate.  Very few travelers go out of their way to plan a vacation around a cold and muggy beach.  Thankfully, no matter how abysmal the weather is in your part of the world, there’s always a beach somewhere that’s just right.  Besides, a lot of the world’s greatest and most popular beaches are near the equator, lending to stellar beach weather (hot sand, cool water) year-round.

Where you stay at the beach is one of the most important considerations, right after making sure you’ve packed an adequate supply of sunblock.  The potential accommodations range from the extremely simplistic beach campsite, to the deluxe ocean facing resort villa with perfumed soaps shaped like various sea creatures.  In the middle ground is the most popular option, a rental house or apartment with good proximity and access to the beach.  Many larger companies have stepped up to this market, offering discount condominiums for the family on a budget.  However, the beach vacation rental industry remains in control of the individual property owners and smaller, local management companies.

So what beach to go to?  While most beach lovers already have a favorite spot, it’s worth exploring options that you might have been previously unaware of or though were outside your budget.  The Caribbean is easily boasts some of the best beaches in the world, with their crystal clear waters and amazing offering of tourist activities and accommodations.  Hawaii’s beaches are also famous, with Waikiki Beach arguably one the best known beach vacation destinations in the world.  The white sand beaches and vibrant local heritage have created a lore around it that keeps it close to the top of “must-see” lists everywhere.  Down in Mexico, places like Acapulco and Cancun have their pristine beaches juxtaposed by lush urban settings, paving the way for the ultimate experience of beach bum by day and party animal by night.  In the end, know that whenever you get the urge for that perfect blend of ocean fun and sandy paradise, your next beach vacation is probably a lot closer than you might think.
