Vacation Deals
|
What constitutes a good vacation deal to one person may mean something completely different to another, much in the same way the term varies between travel agencies and service providers. The reasons for a vacation to be discounted are vast, from simple lack of demand, to a special or significant event promotion (like a new attraction or amenity being unveiled). Included here is a list of the more common vacation deals you will come across, and some explanation to help you decide the ones that will be more fruitfully applied to your situation.
Off-Peak Time – As you might be aware, the majority of destinations have peak and off-peak seasons. For example, Jamaica typically has vacation deals to offer between June and September, when hurricanes are more likely to strike the island. This doesn’t necessarily make purchasing at these times a bad idea. The rates are usually locked in well ahead of time, so if you are able to travel on short notice and the weather forecast looks clear, you are in prime position to take advantage of the seasonally low rates. Conversely, the Napa Valley wine country has a bulk of reduced rates during the colder winter months. While it’s not the prime time to visit the ordinarily lush, fertile valley, you can still enjoy archival wine tastings at local wineries throughout the winter.
Economical Reasons – With the recent strengthening of the Euro against the declining US dollar, fewer Americans have been able to travel abroad for European vacations, simply due to low affordability. As a result of this, many European hotels are actually lowering prices and offering vacation deals and packages in an effort to bring people back.
Mid-Week Rates – Hotels that predominantly serve vacationers are generally more booked on weekends than during the middle of the week, as the bulk of people have more time on the weekends for travelling. This isn’t the case for hotels that cater more to business travelers, but otherwise you should be able to find some really good deals by making your plans during the week. A welcome bonus to this is that you’ll inevitably encounter fewer crowds and traffic along the way to your destination.
Last Minute Vacation Deals – Empty rooms and seats aren’t good for business if you’re a hotel or airline. Since they were set to be wasted anyway, you can take advantage of these deeply discounted vacation deals by knowing where to look, so long as you’re able to take a vacation on a moment’s notice.
Low Demand – Over time, certain destinations just become less popular, despite having great merit as a destination. These are generally places that have seen a decline in their local economy, or are hoping to reclaim their tourism sector in the wake of a natural disaster. Whatever the case may be, finding vacation deals at local hotels and with airlines that fly there is a good possibility.
